About

Built to find what’s already there.

Alchemy is a useful frame for this work and a terrible costume for it. We use it for one reason: it describes finding value in material everyone else has written off. That is the whole job.

Most businesses are sitting on the evidence of their own lost revenue. The session where someone hesitated at the delivery step and left. The form abandoned at the third field. The segment that converts at half the rate of the one beside it, for a reason nobody has looked into. It isn’t hidden — it’s just nobody’s job to look, and it doesn’t fit in a weekly report.

The second half matters more than the first. Most testing programs lose their own history. A test runs, a result is announced in a meeting, the deck goes into a folder, the person who ran it leaves, and eighteen months later someone proposes the same test — or worse, refuses to, on the strength of a half-remembered result nobody can produce. That is the problem the Materia exists to fix, and it is why it lives inside the product rather than beside it.

Who’s behind it

Alchemy Collective is run by Vince. The agent team does the analysis; the judgment calls, the client relationships and the published writing are mine. That division is deliberate and it is disclosed — you should always know which is which, and the audit log is how you can tell.

Humans in the Loop

The public Materia is a research registry, not a content calendar. It publishes anonymized findings from real client work, including the tests that didn’t work — which is most of the useful information and almost none of what the industry publishes. It runs alongside the Humans in the Loop book and essay project.

If you publish only your wins, you are not running a research program. You are running a marketing department with a spreadsheet.
